Too popular...

July 26, 2000 - Update...

With a small surge of support from users, I decided to take the plunge and sign a contract for dedicated webhosting. This is a big jump in cost per month from virtual webhosting, but we can afford it if people click on banner ads occassionally. I moved the entire website over to the new dedicated webserver late last Thursday, July 20, far into the morning of Friday, July 21. This webserver will allow for a lot of growth for BikeTrials.com, so I won't have to be posting another "Too popular!" message anytime in the foreseeable future. BikeTrials.com is on it's very own server now, instead of sharing one server with about 250 other sites! Enjoy the speed, enjoy the updates, tell your friends, and buy the great products offered! :-)

What's going on?
Well, we've done it again! Another virtual webhoster has had enough of the processor and bandwidth-hungry monster that is BikeTrials.com. A sales representative from CommuniTech.net (BikeTrials.com's virtual webhoster) called me up today... He says the CEO says that BikeTrials.com is using too many resources and is becoming too much of a burden on the server. The CEO's ultimatum for BikeTrials.com: Upgrade to dedicated hosting (meaning BikeTrials.com is on a server all by itself instead of sharing a server with about 250 other sites... read: REALLY EXPENSIVE!), or find a different webhoster (oh, please, take me! My website only transfers about 35 GB and gets over 600,000 server hits in a month! read: YEAH RIGHT!).
What does this mean for BikeTrials.com?
Essentially, I have until this Friday at 1 PM to make a decision. If I don't upgrade to dedicated hosting or find something elsewhere, BikeTrials.com will be gone! Currently, BikeTrials.com is not making enough money to be able to pay for dedicated hosting, which is very expensive... I assure you all that BikeTrials.com will continue to exist. The question is how many videos I'll be able to have available for download.
I have a BikeTrials.com e-mail address or website... Will I be affected? How can I help?
  1. See those banner ads everywhere? Visit my sponsors... They help pay for webhosting!
  2. Anyone out there looking to invest in, or donate to BikeTrials.com? Please e-mail me if you can help. If you can't help, don't e-mail me, because it will only slow me down from finding a solution! Thank you all for understanding.
  3. Buy BikeTrials.com merchandise! I have a ton of shirts, and there are always more video cd's. I've been shipping orders out once a week from here in Hawaii... If you're one of the many people who has downloaded videos from BikeTrials.com, please consider buying one of the video cd's to show your appreciation. It is largely because I have all those videos up on BikeTrials.com that I've run into all these webhoster problems... If I can't break even going with a dedicated server, I'm going to have to remove a lot of videos from the website, as well as move my site to a new webhoster. This is the time to take action and support the site! What happens to BikeTrials.com is up to you!

Searching for balance for BikeTrials.com...
