Review
its a very good mechanical disk brake for the money my only gripe after my first day of hard riding the pads came out of alinement and began to rub on the rotor but other than that i dont think that you can get a better set of disks short of high end hydrolicks.

Review
I ride XC and a lot of intermediate level down hill rides. The brakes have yet to fail or have a problem. They have good feel and power, but after a hard down hill ride they do need a little adjustment (nothing big, just a turn or two to get the play out). I have not needed to change brake pads yet, so i hope they are easy and cheap to find. I'm sure there are better brakes out there, but for the money and performance you can't go wrong with these.

I have had these on my full susser downhill bike for just under three months as a cheap alternetive to hydraulics while I saved up for a pair. As soon as I got them I had trouble, after a couple of hours of light use they needed adjusting and got so bad that when I pulled the lever right back to the bars no power was put down! I put up with trail adjustment before taking it to a shop to get it properly done. Even after this they squealed and failed to perform. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!

they are a cheap component and they show it. the cables go out of wack really quickly and require more than frequent adjustment. they are not powerful for disc brakes, and require a significant tug at the lever to get something vaguely special out of them. although they are cheap, they are not good value for money and i am saving for replacements.

essentially, dont get them and i've been told that tektro dont make great brakes all round. i'm changing to hayes hydro's when i have the money hopefully more $ means that i will be able to stop without cramping my fingers.

If you can't get these to stop your bike, you're a retard...and I don't mean that in the nice "hey, retard" sense. I mean you're a stupid shit who doesn't pay attention to things and wants to have your ass wiped by everything that you buy. Otherwise you're possibly a "nice" person.

Review
Good entry level brake for beginners fitting out first bike, but as soon as you hit the trail you're going to need something a little more powerful. I found the Tekto IOs hard to wear in, loud and quite frankly - to stop you need to crank so hard down on them cable stretching is inevitable.

I upgraded to Avid BB7s a while ago, even for quite serious offroad and freeride they do the trick.

I thought that hydraulics weren't worth the hassles until I put these on becasue they are inexpensive. The appeal of not having to bleed a system, etc.

Stay with the hydraulics- its worth the intial trouble. Once set up the hydros are maintenance free and ultra good performer incomparison. My old V-brakes out perform the mechanical discs- by a considerable margin.

I bought a fairly good bike with disk brakes around 2 years ago, and as they always do seemed great in the shop, BUT, basically there crap they comstantly need adjusting they only push from one side so, to eliminate rub, have to bend the rotor to work. Basically my soloution to this problem was to buy a new bike with Avid Juicy 3's with auto pad alignment and oil! and best of all they work, and you can buy the pads! So if you are thinking about buying them dont, buy hydraulics, even if it means selling a child or something or if you dont have any children buy some decent V brakes because they are so much better than all cable disks but esecially these. And to sum my long paragraph of mindless bable up halfords sell bikes with these brakes on them so that just says it really!!!

These came on my Ibex Ignition and did a fairly decent job of stopping on a dime. I does take a few rides to dial them in which can only be done with a one sideded lever. this lever just centers the two pads so that one side is not touching. I recently upgraded my front forks and realised how hevy these suckers are. I ordered some avid bb7's as I'm told they are great. The Tektro I/O serve there purpose but are not a great brake, just average.

This is for all the winers who don't know anything about disc brakes. You have to adjust them in order for them to work effectively. If they are flexing your disc- they need adjusting. It's a no brainer. You can't blame the product for ignorance.

The brakes were stock on new Raleigh M40DX. My first discs after several decades of riding. I commute by bike daily and have it modified for expedition trekking in the So NV and CA desert. Longest ride one week on roads and in hills and dirt with loaded panniers and BOB trailer. The brakes were a dream come true. Even good V-brakes were a problem loaded with the trailer on long down hills -- especially in fine sand. These stock Tektros have gone a 2K+ miles without a failure and only minor adjustments. Rear now needs pads so I will learn if they are hard to find. -- Las Vegas

I first thought they were alright, then on the second ride, the front bolt started coming loose. i tightened it, but obviously that tightened the break and stopped the wheel going round. Still having problems, the back wheel is fine.
