Excerpt from the Ergon website:
When riding a bike with a round grip, points of very high pressure are concentrated in areas the hand cannot withstand for extended periods... The only way to deal with pressure is to distribute it over a larger surface and to eliminate any peaks in pressure. The ergon team achieved the perfect grip by increasing the surface area by 40% over traditional round grips. Not stopping there the designers of the ergon grip developed the optimum anatomical shape too, where 100% of the surface contacts the palm providing the lowest measurable pressure readings on the hand and ulnar nerve. All this adds up to elimination of pain and numbness of the fingers and hands and a more comfortable ride for you.

Problems with wrists (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome)... eliminated: In a natural, relaxed position the lower arm and the hand (the wrist as a connection) should be in line. While in a riding position it is easy to rotate the hand to where a sharp angle develops between the hand and arm. The median nerve, which is the main nerve located inside the wrist, can easily become pinched, irritated and inflamed making riding painful. To keep the wrist and hand in line while riding, the ergon grip has an anatomical shape with built in correction (similar to orthopedic insoles) to keep the wrists and hands in line. With the ergon grip, the advanced shape guides you into the correct position for a comfortable pain free ride!

Review
I got these for my mountain bike, but thought I'd give them a try on my trials bike. I like them! The extra surface area fits my palms well and makes it very comfortable to put as much weight as I'd like on them. With regular grips, I noticed hand, wrist, and finger pain. While none of that has been eliminated with these grips, the pain has been greatly reduced. It also makes hopping on the rear tire even more comfortable on my fingers, since I can use my whole fingers, including finger tips, to pull on the bar.

The one downside I've noticed so far is that you can't wrap your fingers around the underside of the grip and pull forward. To accomplish this, you have to clamp down pretty hard on the grips to get enough grip to pull them forward. I'm thinking about using a dremel to cut out a grove for my fingers.

Also, the clamping bolt seems to be fine so far, but I think 2 clamping bolts would be better - especially for the extra twisting torque these would see when doing front tire touch-ups. They've managed to stay in place for me so far...

Overall, these are my favorite grips so far, hands down.
