Haven't tried any other tire but this is great and the grip is good. Recommended for beginners like me.

I don't have a lite bike. BUT, the m.m.d are very
LITE. Grip is First class. I ride a harro bmx f1c
custom for trials but for it's size it would put
some expensive bikes to shame. so my set up is
GREAT all thanks to maxxis Here's a big tip for the rear tire put 35 pounds in it. 35 is my sweet spot. take in account you're body weight and bike weight as well.

Review
run the 1.85 on my mod bike (front) and it gripped anything
clears mud easy so good in the wet
design gives good sideways grip
needs thicker sidewalls so lower pressure can be used
