The opposed dual-piston caliper is a forged one-piece design that eliminates bolts, seams, and seals, reducing weight and improving caliper rigidity. The XTR-exclusive rotors use stainless steel braking surfaces mounted to an alloy spider to reduce weight. They attach to XTR hubs with Shimano's new "CenterLock" mounting system, a spline and lockring system. These brakes use Shimano mineral oil.
