Used Product For
3 Months

Strengths
Inexpensive, decently stiff and strong, nice bashring

Weaknesses
Square taper lacks stiffness and strength, could shave some weight by machining out the inside of the crankarm

Similar Products Used
Middleburn RS7, FSA Afterburner, Monty-Sugino, Truvativ Holzfeller, Bonz...

Review
Echo's latest stock crank currently comes only in square taper, which is a bit of a disappointment. The ISIS system is much stiffer and stronger than square taper, although bottom brackets are usually more expensive.

For a square taper crank, it is plenty stiff and seems strong. It's also relatively light, at 530 grams for the pair, plus 109 grams for the bashring. The bashring is held in place by screwing the freewheel or track cog onto the crank. The bashring doesn't have any grip to it, which is fine if you don't care about your bashring gripping (I don't mind, personally).

By far the best thing this crank has going for it is price, which is lower than most other cranks available. If you want to run a freewheel on the front, this is an inexpensive option. If you want to keep your freewheel in the rear, you can always thread on an 18 tooth track cog onto the crank instead.

Review
I have had two sets of these cranks now, the first set i used with an echo fixed cog, fitted them, went out for a ride, and the threads that the cog screwed onto stripped, every thing was screwed on straight, so dunno what was wrong.
SO i got some warrenty replacements, but this time used a freewheel instead of the fixed cog, once agin, 3 hours of riding and the threads have stripped, and from this expeience i am not a happy bunny, and will be getting some middleburns or tensiles asap.

Soft aluminum - front freewheel threads strip out

Review
This is an update to my previous review. I just recently stripped the front freewheel threads on these cranks, which has rendered them useless. I don't know if this is because of the material used, or a problem in manufacturing, but it wasn't from installation - the freewheel went on nice and smooth, and I greased the threads first.

Buyer beware...

Review
I bought these and fitted a brand new freewheel on them and after a couple of days of riding the threads that held the freewheel on stripped. Everything was fitted professionally and i dont go half as big as the other riders i know, if you a decent rider avoid these as they're more trouble than they're worth.

I have been riding these cranks for almost 8 months havent stripped them yet but the pedal keeps going in more and more I always have to tighten it to keep it from getting loose!!!
I don't like the stiffness of these cranks they flex like crazy don't give you that extra push we need to get up high!!

Copies of very old style mission cranks that came out around 1999/2000, just re-branded Echo, obviously.

Erm, work ok. I just wish Echo would have some imagination once in a while!
