This hub is not the end all that people make it out to be. The engagement is not as positive as it should be, on many occations mine have missed, even after a full King rebuild, EVERY King i've had(3) misses. Also, you can't radially lace or use a high spoke tension because this hub is soo light that the internal clearances will be changed and warped by the spoke pull. However, there is nothing better out there yet.

I used Universal hubs for almost two years and recently upgraded them to ISO. I am mostly going to talk about the rear hub as the front hub is quite irrelevant in trials, although if you have the cash then buy King for front, too. Anyways, the Ring Drive mechanism is unbelievably reliable even in trials use. It never skips after the first week or so. 72 engagement points mean that there is no lag when you pedal kick. Riding a Shimano hub after getting used to King is horrible! I would say that a King rear hub is the single most important part after a good frame that fits your riding style.

Kings are great, solid feel, no play after it's been broken in, engages relatively quickly, and stays solid after engagement.

Do break it in properly. I didn't, now when I try to pedal while doing a wheelie it sometimes slips, but very very rarely during a pedal kick (thank god!).

Definitely worth your dollar, if it breaks polish it up and use it as paper weight, looks damn cool.

Review
I splashed out on a set of Chris King ISO hubs for my trials bike and was thoroughly impressed with the overall feel and finish to these hubs. I normally manage to break a rear hub in around 2 months of riding and have been through a couple of bulbs previous to the Kings, but as yet these are running as smooth as the day I first rode them.
My only niggles to them (only small ones!) are that servicing them can be a little annoying as you have to do it so often - but then its a small price to pay for having a precision hub.

from day one these hubs have been a dream yet the only problem ive had is with the freehub body. it seems to get eaten away by the cassette. not a huge problem tho. well chuffed with mine worth the 300 odd quid.

I broke 3 shimano freehubs in 1 month, got the King and have been going strong for 3 months. Wicked Hub. Vastly improves pedal stroke based moves.

Come on it's a KING. Best trials hub i have ever used. Awesome tech dept. I rode a classic rear hub forever, when I finally snspped the axle, Jen at King Cycle Group rebuilt the whole thing for FREE. I will run king hubs at all cost.

Make sure the hub is tightened, lubed, and broken in, and forgetaboutit.

Change out to Stainless hub body for trials and go RIDE!
