Sandhill Ranch Trials... A Premature Death Announcement!
Report by Jon Maeda
While promoting the Sept 14th event as their last ever trials, promoters
Renne & Phil Anderson, of PR Sports, have decided to continue to include
Biketrials events in their popular bike park. While not every event will
feature trials, selected dates will definitely include hoppers. Watch the
Biketrials.com calendars for featured dates. While this is a reprieve from a
premature death to Brentwood trials, NorCal riders are urged to support
whenever events do appear on the schedule, if the venue is to continue.
Sandhill is also open for trials practice on the weekends.
The final Sandhill series event for 2002 saw extreme heat & humidity reign
supreme. Traveling pro Jeremy VanSchoonhoven made a welcome appearance, as a
break from his World UCI efforts. An appreciative crowd was wowed by the
techniques and skills that Jeremy is learning and refining in his European
adventures. As the only pro in attendance, Jeremy took an uncontested win in
Pro Stock. Zak Maeda of SoCal rode to a narrow victory in Expert Mod, over
locals Stevie Morgan & Phil Lucero. Pescadero's Casey Holm rode to a win
over SoCal's Brian Davis from Riverside. Chicago area transplant Brice
Arnold took an easy win over Kernville resident Zane Tedder, as Simi Valley
wildman Sam Phelps rode to an uncontested Sport Mod win.
The announcement that Sandhill would continue a modified schedule of trials
should be a welcome relief to area riders, as it remains one of the ony
venues hosting biketrials in the State. A big thanks to Phil & Renee for
their continued efforts to popularize trials!
